HEALTH AND WELLBEING
How we train and feed out bodies
As surfing and ocean activities become more main stream, we are starting to witness a greater scientific approach to discovering the physical and mental benefits to being in the ocean. In the hopes it will help, we have collected a list of Physical and Mental ailments for which surfing has been directly prescribed by fantastic Doctors and NGO’s around the world. We have included a small blurb about the article and links to the full site and/or articles.
Everyone’s lives are packed and busy these days. Everyone seems to be juggling 10 things at once, and always on the go, leading to being exhausted and drained. Like your fuel tank the quality of what you put in leads to what will come out, and keeping certain things in mind can help keep you on top of your game and feeling great with lots of energy.
What we love to do
Hanna Scott, one of Canada’s top Female surfers, and her friends Tatum Monod and Sara Taylor, set out by boat to a remote location outside of Hanna’s home town Tofino, BC to explore the rugged wilderness in search of surf and escape. We experience the journey alongside the women as they playfully navigate the frigid waters and rugged conditions, in pursuit of the joy that lies on the other side of discomfort
Every single bit of plastic that has ever been made, is still in existence. Take a moment to think about that for a bit. Every bag, every bottle cap, toy, toothbrush, everything. Eventually everything ends up in the ocean.

When you’re first learning to surf the amount of equipment needed can seem daunting. There’s a couple things you’ll need, and then eventually you’ll figure out your preferences and find the things you like….
Follow stories from local travellers
In this episode of Weird Waves Dylan Graves and the WW Crew prove ferry waves are real. We’re talking specifically about ferries that take people from the blue-collar town of Barreiro, Portugal to the capital city of Lisbon as a way to dodge morning traffic. The new wave generating boats have sparked a new surf community in an unlikely place. One person’s commuter traffic is another’s wonderland.
The Weird Waves Crew wanted to start off season 2 with a bang. They may have taken the idea a little too literally by traveling to Alaska to potentially ride a wave made from falling ice, which makes a deafening crack with each piece of glacier that breaks off to form a wave… no biggie. In this episode they also check out what the locals on the Turnagain Arm are calling, ‘America’s longest wave.’ Saddle up, partners! Season Two of Weird Waves is coming in hot! Well… cold, actually.
Take It Easy On The Zambezi, featuring Mikey February, Dylan Graves, and Harry Bryant, on what Graves calls the biggest adventure he’s ever taken in search of surf, deep into the heart of Sub-Saharan Africa.
If only life was one long vacation… well its not, but the next best thing is to find some excuse to ditch the “real” office and learn to surf.
